The New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has formally filed his nomination to contest the party’s October 3, 2026 elections, seeking a second term to lead the party’s rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general election.

Speaking after filing his forms, Mr Frimpong said his decision was driven by a desire to consolidate reforms undertaken following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

He acknowledged the pain of the defeat but said the party had used the period to reflect, reorganise and strengthen its structures.

“2024 did not finish the NPP. We are not quitters. We have learnt, we have reorganised, and we have begun rebuilding,” he said.

Mr Frimpong cited several reforms during his tenure, including the strengthening of the party’s legal directorate, internal democratic processes and communications structures, constitutional reforms, the operationalisation of the Patriotic Institute and the revival of Sector Committees.

He argued that these reforms provide a strong basis for the party to continue its preparations for the 2028 elections.

According to him, the NPP must begin preparing for 2028 now rather than waiting until the election year.

He pledged, if re-elected, to improve the mobilisation and distribution of party resources to constituency structures, organise early parliamentary primaries, and strengthen training for party officers from the polling station to the national level.

Mr Frimpong also promised to prioritise the welfare of party activists and improve relations between the party and any future NPP government.

He urged party must learn from the disconnect between its structures and government experienced in the past and ensure grassroots members are not neglected. “Our internal contests must never become permanent wars.”

After each internal election, “we should be able to embrace each other, shake hands, and collaborate once more”.

Mr Frimpong further expressed his readiness to work with NPP presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and other party leaders to build a united front ahead of the 2028 elections.

He is asking delegates to renew his mandate on October 3, arguing that his experience, institutional knowledge and record of reforms make him best placed to complete the party’s rebuilding process and help position the NPP for a return to power in 2028.
